How are DEWA electricity costs calculated?
How are watts converted to kWh?
Watts ÷ 1,000 × hours per day × days = kWh. A 1,000 W appliance used 8 hours a day for 30 days uses 240 kWh. With the default tariffs and no other household usage, that costs AED 73.08 including fuel surcharge and VAT.
How do DEWA electricity slabs work?
DEWA’s standard residential electricity rates are AED 0.23, 0.28, 0.32 and 0.38 per kWh. The monthly thresholds are 2,000, 4,000 and 6,000 kWh. We split your usage across the applicable slabs. Add other household usage to estimate the extra cost of your appliances.
Does the estimate include fuel surcharge and VAT?
Yes. The October 2026 defaults include AED 0.06/kWh fuel surcharge and 5% VAT. You can update both in Tariff settings using DEWA’s official tariff.
Can I update the tariffs and save my devices?
